  • Total Time: 24 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 2 tbsp bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 tsp paprika
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and grate the potatoes using the large holes of a box grater.
  2. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl filled with cold water. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain and squeeze the grated potatoes to remove as much water as possible.
  4. Spread the potatoes on paper towels and pat them dry to eliminate remaining moisture.
  5. Transfer the dried potatoes to a clean bowl.
  6. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  7. Sprinkle in the breadcrumbs and drizzle with olive oil.
  8. Mix well until all the potatoes are evenly coated with the seasonings and oil.
  9. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  10. Scoop the potato mixture into a round cookie cutter placed on the tray.
  11. Press down to form compact patties, then remove the mold. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
  12. Place the formed patties in the freezer for 20 minutes to help them hold their shape.
  13. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F.
  14. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and brush with a little olive oil.
  15. Place the frozen patties in a single layer in the basket. Avoid overcrowding.
  16. Cook for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  17. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

  • Remove as much moisture as possible. Soak grated potatoes in cold water for at least 10 minutes, then squeeze them dry using a clean kitchen towel. This step is crucial for crispiness.
  • Use the right potatoes. Russet potatoes are best due to their high starch content. Avoid waxy varieties like red or fingerling potatoes—they won’t crisp up as well.
  • Don’t skip the freezing step. Freezing the formed patties for 20 minutes helps them hold their shape and improves their texture during air frying.
  • Line your air fryer properly. Use parchment paper to prevent sticking, but ensure it doesn’t block airflow. A light spray of oil also helps achieve a golden, crispy crust.
