Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (e.g., King Arthur)
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Garlic Butter Topping

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch of salt

For the Seasoning Blend

  • 2 parts garlic powder
  • 2 parts onion powder
  • 3 parts dried oregano
  • 1 part paprika
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

Optional Toppings

  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for extra flavor)
  • Shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (for cheesy breadsticks)

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the yeast, warm water, and sugar.
    • Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Make the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
    • Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until combined.
    • Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Let the Dough Rise:
    • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel.
    • Allow it to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the Breadsticks:
    • Punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Divide it into equal portions.
    • Roll each portion into long, thin breadsticks and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
    • Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake the Breadsticks:
    • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Add the Garlic Butter Topping:
    • While the breadsticks are warm, brush them with melted butter mixed with garlic and salt.
    • Sprinkle the prepared seasoning blend generously over the top.
  • Optional Cheesy Variation:
    • Before baking, sprinkle shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese on the breadsticks for a cheesy version.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes until warm and crispy. For frozen breadsticks, thaw at room temperature before reheating.
  • Dipping Sauces: Serve with marinara, ranch, garlic butter, or melted mozzarella for extra flavor.
