For the Beef Patties:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Patties:
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt, and pepper. Combine gently until just mixed.
- Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Cook the Patties:
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a drizzle of oil and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Make the Mushroom Gravy:
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Add mushrooms and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine and Simmer:
- Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
- Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the patties are fully cooked and infused with the gravy.
- Serve:
- Serve the Salisbury steak hot, smothered in mushroom gravy. Pair with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or your favorite sides.
