Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Mushroom Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beef Patties:
    • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt, and pepper. Combine gently until just mixed.
    • Shape into 4 oval patties.
  • Cook the Patties:
    • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a drizzle of oil and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Make the Mushroom Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter. Add mushrooms and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
    • Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
    • Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Combine and Simmer:
    • Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
    • Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the patties are fully cooked and infused with the gravy.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the Salisbury steak hot, smothered in mushroom gravy. Pair with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or your favorite sides.
