Ingredients

Scale

For the Smoothie:

  • 1 cup almond milk (or any milk of choice)
  • 1 banana (frozen for a thicker texture)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter (or peanut butter)
  • 1 tablespoon shredded coconut (toasted for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of sea salt (to balance sweetness)
  • A handful of ice cubes (for a chilled smoothie)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Ingredients:

  • If you prefer a thicker smoothie, use a frozen banana. You can freeze the banana ahead of time by slicing it and placing the pieces in a freezer bag.
  • Toast the shredded coconut in a dry skillet over low heat for a few minutes, if desired, to bring out a deeper flavor.

2. Blend the Smoothie:

  • Add the almond milk to your blender, followed by the frozen banana, cocoa powder, almond butter, shredded coconut, vanilla extract, sea salt, and ice cubes.
  • Start blending on low speed, then gradually increase to high. Blend for 1-2 minutes, until everything is smooth and creamy.

3. Taste and Adjust:

  • Taste your smoothie. If you prefer it sweeter, add a date, honey, or maple syrup to taste.
  • If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more almond milk to reach your desired consistency.

4. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Pour the smoothie into a glass and, for extra flair, sprinkle some additional shredded coconut or a few chocolate shavings on top.
  • Sip and enjoy the rich, chocolatey goodness of your German Chocolate Cake Smoothie.

Notes

  • The almond butter adds a rich, nutty flavor that complements the chocolate beautifully, but you can substitute peanut butter if you prefer.
  • The shredded coconut adds both texture and a slight sweetness. Toasting it beforehand gives an extra layer of flavor, but it’s optional.
